Our Little Darlings News Blog

Down to the wire

For a lot of you, it's already Tuesday as I write this.  That means you have not quite four full days to complete and send a photo of your entry to Elizabeth for the Little Darlings Plant a Garden contest.  We hope that many of you are waiting for the last minute rather than giving this a pass because it's not a swap or something similar.  Dianna formed this group with learning in mind.  What do you learn from a contest?  How about staging a photograph so that it's well lit and inviting?  How to make props from paper mache or clay?  Learning more about scale so that everything in your photo is truly the right size for your Little Darling?  I think it's evident by the scoring criteria that was provided in the initial announcement, we don't consider this a "fluff" activity.  We want you to have fun, but we want you to try to do something new, too, and learn from it.  And have you seen the prizes that Elizabeth made???  I think they are the best that we've had in a long time!  Unfortunately, only one person provided prizes this time, but they are truly something that is worth the work!

So, while four days is a short period of time, it is still doable to complete an entry for this contest.  Remember to send one (two at the most) original to this contest super duper photo(s) to Elizabeth on Friday, May 5.  What do you have to lose????

PS.  New members - there are references to the contest in the Announcements section.  If you can't find them, just send me an email and I'll let you know where they are and what you need to do.  Please try to enter this contest, even if you wish you could have had more time.  Many people do their best under pressure!  :)

  • Not sure if I will get to do this...I'm thinking not (phooey) as I had arthroscopic knee surgery last Wed., and it will be a while before I'm terribly flexible (as in, getting down on my knees to photograph my girls).  Not saying positively no, but it's not looking likely at this point. <sigh>

By the way, there really isn't an "announcements" section that I could find--did you mean the News section?  That's where I found the original post.  For the convenience of new list members, here is the link: http://ourlittledarlings.ning.com/blog/trying-again-little-darling-...  Hope that will induce some of them to enter!!

    • Thanks, Charlotte, for the help!!  The Announcement section is part of News, that's true.  I think that your knee surgery is definitely a good reason why you can't participate (unless you still choose to do it).  I know everyone's busy, too.  The thing is that we were asked for a Spring activity earlier in the year and had a much earlier deadline.  We were hoping that with 700+ members, there would be more participation.  Thanks, again, and take care of yourself!!

    • Charlotte, I'm so sorry about your knees - ouch! I hope the surgery results are good and quick. And  I hope you feel like crawling on the floor again soon, lol! I sure understand what you mean about that being a a problem - I have to take almost all my photos while on the floor, too - and my knees complain about it afterwards. Take good care of yourself! ; )

  • I would like to enter the contest, however, I have no idea how to send the photos as I can't find an email address for Elizabeth.  I didn't see it listed.  I'm sure I have just missed something. Thank you.

  • Hi Joy!  I am glad you brought this up!  If you look at the blue bar at the top of the page, one of the choices is Members.  Click on that and it will take you to the list of members.  There's a box at the right where you can put the name of the member.  Type in:  Elizabeth W.  You will get her page.  There is a blue box, somewhat like the Comment box, that says Messages.  You can use that to privately email her and send your photo.  If you are still having a tough time, you can email me the same way or at  laurasey@wavecable.com. and I will send it to her.  She is having some important family time today, so you may not hear from her right away today.

  • I did find the message part, but then I wasn't sure how to attach photos.  So, if I can't figure it out, I will email to you.  Thank you so much.

    • The second box from the left on the bar above lets you add an image.  No problem if you send it to me, though! :)

  • Oh, good!  I hope you get to, too!!  I know about rain.  We actually had warmth AND no rain today!  Our arc is almost ready.

    take care,

    laura

  • I so hoped to take part in this contest.  I've bought the fabric and a lovely prop to use and intended to sew last week... Then my son broke his collarbone and I had to play nurse.  Still a tiny chance I can make it - but the outfit will have to be a skirt!  If I don't get it done on time I'll just post the pictures anyway.

    • Sorry to hear about your son! Thanks for letting us know of your intention.  And thanks for having the spirit of joining in whether it's in time to be part of the contest or not.  I hope that motivates others whether it's for this activity or another!
